FAQPage schemaFAQPage schema labels visible questions and answers on a page in a structured way. The key rule: FAQ markup may only be used for visible FAQ content. The questions and answers in the markup must match the visible page content.

It suits pages such as:

• FAQ and help pages,
• support articles,
• guides with genuine common questions.

The prominent display as a rich resultRich results are enhanced displays in Google, for example with ratings, prices or breadcrumbs, which can be enabled by suitable structured data.Open glossary entry → in Google is now heavily restricted; Google shows it mainly for authoritative government and health sites. FAQ markup is therefore no longer a guaranteed click-through lever. For forums with multiple user answers, the QAPage type is more appropriate than FAQPage.

Requirements and limits #

FAQPage markup must mirror questions and answers that are visible on the page — hidden or invented Q&A violates the guidelines. Since 2023 Google shows FAQ rich results mainly for well-known authority sites, but the markup remains valuable: it hands AI assistants perfectly pre-segmented question/answer pairs.

Where FAQ schema pays off #

Pricing pages, product pages and how-to articles collect real user questions anyway — answering them in an accordion with matching FAQPage JSON-LDJSON-LD (JavaScript Object Notation for Linked Data) is a data format for embedding structured data in a page, separate from the visible HTML.
