The sameAs field is an important disambiguation signal. Schema.org defines it as the URL of a reference page that unambiguously indicates an item's identity.

Suitable targets are official profiles, for example a LinkedIn company profile, official YouTube, GitHub, X or Facebook profiles, a legitimate Wikidata entry, and relevant industry or marketplace profiles.

Not suitable are:

  • private profiles or unofficial fan pages,
  • outdated or inconsistently named profiles,
  • purchased low-quality directory entries,
  • third-party brand profiles,
  • artificial or unverifiable wiki entries.

The rule is: use sameAs only for profiles that genuinely confirm the same . False or invented profiles weaken identity clarity rather than strengthening it.
