A topic is the central unit in RankScan. It bundles , AI prompts and competitors around one or business area. Visibility no longer happens only at domain level. It happens per topic, market and AI question - which is why clean topic definition matters so much.

Good topics #

Cover one clear intent, for example "marketing automation" instead of "software".

Reflect an area where you actually want to be found.

Can be described with roughly 5-15 keywords and a focused set of AI prompts.

Have relevant competitors that make the comparison useful.

Common mistakes #

  • Too broad "Software" mixes too many intents and makes scores blurry.
  • Too narrow one topic per individual keyword wastes quota and makes the setup hard to manage.
  • Mixed markets or languages create separate properties for different markets or languages.

Tip #

Think in the questions your customers ask. Every clearly distinct decision question, such as "Which CRM is best for small teams?", can be a useful topic.
