AI answers often name only a few providers. So what matters is not just whether your brand is named, but how often compared with your competitors. RankScan compares you with the leader. The leader is the brand with the most mentions.

How to read the comparison #

Open “AI Visibility describes whether and how visible a brand, website or person is in AI-generated answers. It measures mention, position, description and source linking across multiple platforms and prompts.Open glossary entry →”, the “Overview” tab, section “Comparison with your competitors”. Each brand has four values:

  • named In how many answers the brand appears.
  • named early In how many answers it appears in the first three sentences.
  • Link to website How many answers link its website, even without a mention.
  • Points The value RankScan builds the score from.

Your brand is marked “you”, the leader “Leader”.

Where the gap comes from #

  • Per AI assistant The sentence above the table names where you are strongest and weakest. The table shows who leads in each assistant.
  • Topics The “Change” column shows where you gain or lose. A click opens the topic. There, “Strongest competitors” shows who leads in that topic.
  • Suggestions Below the comparison, RankScan lists brands that are named often but not tracked as competitors. “Add as competitor” adds them to the comparison.

Share of voice #

The app does not show Share of Voice in AI answers measures the proportion of mentions a brand receives within a prompt set compared to competitors. It indicates the competitive position in AI answers.Open glossary entry → as a percentage. You find it in the Looker Studio connector and the reporting An application programming interface (API) is an interface through which software systems communicate and exchange data. Tip #

Start with the AI assistant where the gap is largest. Read the answers to the prompts where the leader is ahead of you. That shows which sources and arguments help the leader.
